Who am I
I am Samantha Castillo, a guatemalan software developer that lives in California.
I am passionate about technology, installing and setup things and exploring new apps and software.
I have over 10 years of experience and have had many jobs that have taught me valuable lessons across my life.
We can say I started at MilkNCookies as department director, here is where I did one of my most iconic projects, MiniMundi, it’s not active anymore but it was a Flash/AS3 game to teach kids how to recycle. I spent hundreds of hours on this project and it won several awards across the world.
After I left MilknCookies I joined BlueKite, a guatemalan company which main business was to pay remittances and services online and cross country. I did mobile and software development like an Auth server and others and contributed to the launch of an API.
BlueKite was acquired by Xoom, a San Francisco, California based company. Their main business was remittances. They repurposed a huge building into the guatemalan offices and we start having meetings with San Franciscan’s developers. It was a game changer and an upgrade for everyone.
Xoom was acquired by PayPal and became Xoom a PayPal Service, if Xoom was a game changer this was a life changer, suddenly we are owned by a multinational company with over 30,000 employees.
By that time I was looking to be relocated out of the country so I applied to a software development position at Munich, Germany and I got it, yay! I was ready to quite but PayPal offered me a position in San Francisco and, due to closeness to Guatemala and language barrier, I decided to take the San Francisco’s opportunity and so I was relocated to the US.
During my time at PayPal I had 3 different positions, Member of Technical Staff 1, MTS 2, and Software Engineering Manager 2, on which I learned and got precious knowledge about different field during my transitions between positions.
Right now I am open to new horizons and looking forward to fulfill my curiosity with a new job on which I can thrive.
